Construction
Propellent Driven Fasteners
Today’s traditional propellent driven fasteners utilize a modified .22 cartridge which is initiated by a standard primer mix containing lead azide or lead styphnate. Construction workers using these traditional fasteners within enclosed spaces are exposed to health hazards associated with lead exposure. Due to the significant health risk, the European Union has outlawed this style of propellant driven fastener system. The current alternative to the traditional fastener involves a cumbersome system using a combination of batteries and propane tanks that has not been well received by industry.
Our next generation propellant system for fasteners will significantly transform the construction industry by enhancing speed, safety, and efficiency over the transitional fastener system, while . Our innovative next generation system is non-toxic and delivers a more controlled energy release, enabling faster and more precise installation of fasteners across all materials. We will be designing systems to take advantage of new rivet designs as well.

Ammunition Primer Technology
Spectre’s primer technology (SPT) uses thin-film deposition to build nanoscale layers of reactants into complex arrangements that are engineered to maximize primer performance. A single SPT primer may have as many as 900 layers of material within a stack about as thick as a human hair. This level of control results in increased performance and consistency when compared to traditional primer systems. The use of benign materials such as aluminum and copper oxide make our thin-film SPT primers completely non-toxic – free of all heavy metals (such as lead) and organic explosives. Our technology bonds these materials together in a way that they do not react with each other until initiated. This results in primers with a long shelf life due to the exceptional stability of their components. Bringing the primer production process into the 21st century results in revolutionary improvements in internal ballistics, toxicity, and shelf life.
Detonator Technology
Traditional blasting caps and detonators often use a primary explosive containing a heavy metal (lead or mercury) which poses a health risk for mining, construction, and military personnel who utilize these regularly. The current alternative to traditional heavy metal-based blasting caps (EBWs/EFDs) requires a high voltage high current fire-set to initiate, rendering it not very portable.
Spectre’s next generation detonator technology combines the easy ignition of a traditional blasting cap with the non-toxic performance of an EBW/EFD. The flexibility of our thin-film detonator technology enables their use in a variety of forms that would be challenging or impossible utilizing traditional methods. Our detonators can be produced smaller than a pencil eraser or as a distributed network within a 1,000lb+ bomb for tunable blast effects. In addition, initiation sensitivity can be modified to meet a variety of IM criteria depending on the end use of the item.
Note: These technologies are subject to U.S. export controls, including those under U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which govern exports and other releases of these technologies and may require prior export licenses or other authorizations before Spectre may export or release the same.
